[2009 May] Discovery of Rwandan genocide priest
taints Vatican a second Rwandan Catholic priest accused of involvement
in the 1994 genocide was found to be working in Italy under an assumed
name.....It will accuse him of direct complicity in the massacre of more than 80
students, aged from 12 to 20, at a Catholic school where he was
headmaster.....she identified Uwayezu and described how he brought soldiers to
the school at Kibeho and conspired with them to have the Tutsi students
killed.....He is a Hutu like another notorious Rwandan priest, Athanase Seromba,
who joined the campaign to exterminate Rwanda’s Tutsi minority and who also
ended up in Florence.....Seromba, who was found in Italy by The Sunday Times, is
serving a life sentence after being convicted of slaughtering 2,000 of his
parishioners by bulldozing his church as they cowered inside.

[2006] Pope 'led cover-up of child abuse by
priests' The Pope played a leading role in a systematic cover-up of child
sex abuse by Roman Catholic priests,.....In 2001, while he was a cardinal, he
issued a secret Vatican edict to Catholic bishops all over the world,
instructing them to put the Church's interests ahead of child safety. The
programme also accuses the Catholic Church of knowingly harbouring paedophile
clergymen. It reveals that priests accused of child abuse are generally not
struck off or arrested but simply moved to another parish, often to reoffend. It
gives examples of hush funds being used to silence the victims.

child victim, the priest dealing with the allegation and any witnesses. Breaking
that oath means excommunication from the Catholic Church.
[2002] Suing the PopeThe Catholic Church did not tell the locals that Fr Fortune was a brutal,
predatory paedophile. They organised delegations to two Bishops - wrote to the
Papal Nuncio and the Vatican. The church promised it would do something. It
never did....But what the locals did not know was that
Fr Fortune already faced mounting allegations of child sexual abuse. The
Catholic Church kept this knowledge to itself. 18 years after the first
complaint, the Catholic Church was finally forced to remove him from duties.
