If you want to reset your Firefox preferences, this article provides instructions on how to reset them through Safe Mode.

To reset preferences:

At the top of the Firefox window, click the Firefox button, go over to the Help menu and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.... Firefox will start up with the Firefox Safe Mode dialog.
For Windows XP, click the Help menu and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled....
Note: You can also start Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down the shift key while starting Firefox.

 

  1. To reset your user preferences, click to put a check mark by Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults.


     
  2. To apply your changes, click Make Changes and Restart.

Firefox will restart with your settings changed back to the defaults.

please proceed as follows:
- Open the Firefox browser.
- Type about:config into the address bar and press the Enter key.
- Confirm that you will be careful.
- Type keyword.URL into the newly displayed Filter field.
- Double-click the displayed item.
- Change its value to:

http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=

- Type browser.search.defaultenginename into the Filter field.
- Double-click the displayed item.
- Change its value to Google.

The default search engine for the address bar will be restored back to Google.
