Parents Not Receiving Full Information on Vaccines

CHANDLER, Ariz., Sept. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- It's ``back-to-school'' time and parents are being urged to make sure their children get their vaccines -- but they're never given information about potential risks of these drugs and are often misled into thinking vaccines are required for school enrollment.

According to the World Chiropractic Alliance (WCA) such deliberate withholding of vital information is unethical and should be stopped. ``With other medical procedures, doctors have the moral and legal obligation to obtain 'informed consent' from patients,'' stated Terry A. Rondberg, D.C., WCA president. ``That means they must advise their patients of dangers and side effects. Yet, when it comes to vaccines, parents are kept ignorant of the risks involved and their options.''

Evidence of serious side effects including seizures and death has mounted in the past several years. The medical community is now looking into possible links between vaccines and various neurological and autoimmune disorders, such as attention deficit disorder, autism, asthma, diabetes, otitis media, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, Alzheimer's, cancer, and AIDS. However, none of this information is provided at vaccine ``drives'' or other events.

In addition, parents are often told their children will be barred from public school unless they receive vaccinations. The truth is, most states allow for exemptions, requiring only a statement from the child's health care provider or a waiver signed by the parents objecting to the vaccination on medical, religious or philosophical grounds.

Since medical providers fail to provide full information on the risks of vaccines, the World Chiropractic Alliance is encouraging parents to seek out such information themselves. The WCA singled out the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) as the primary source of valuable information. ``A few hours spent on the NVIC website -- www.909shot.com -- can be the best investment parents can make in their children's health,'' Dr. Rondberg added.

The World Chiropractic Alliance is an international organization representing doctors of chiropractic and promoting the traditional, drug-free and non-invasive form of chiropractic as a means to correct vertebral subluxations which cause nerve interference. The WCA is an NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information and publisher of the peer-reviewed chiropractic research journal, ``Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research.''
