Template for Standard Cloudbuster

TEMPLATE.JPG

The following image was created by Don Croft to describe the construction of the three wood templates required for a cloudbuster.

Make three copies, one for each size wood template.

TEMPLATE MAKING USING COMPASS:

Use Compass to get radius of bucket bottom
Using that radius, draw circle on wood, then place pipe inside circle to get radius of pipe circle
Draw circle
Then, using same radius, draw circle for top template.
[To get the 6 pipe positions] Using same radius put compass point anywhere on circle and draw a curve to cut the circle either side.
Then move around circle doing the same.  Strangely enough, you then get 6 points on the circle, which must be why the CB works best with 6 pipes.

6 points on bottom template.

Do the same for top template.

Then draw circle around centre of bottom template--you then cut that out, and also cut away more wood between the pipe holes----see drawing above.

After finding 6 pipe positions (not shown here), put pipe on top circle to get radius for outside of top template.

Draw circle

Below is the method explained again (for a hexagon in this case):

Picking any point on the circle as the center, draw another circle B of the same radius. From the two points of intersection, draw circles C and D. Finally, draw E centered on the intersection of circles A and C. The six circle-circle intersections then determine the vertices of a regular hexagon.
