Benzyl alcohol

"Alcohols, such as ethanol, methanol, isopropyl, and 2 phenoxyethanol, are antiseptics used to "inhibit the growth and reproduction of microorganisms. Alcohols are highly toxic and can cause a myriad of problems including: general malaise, blindness, acidosis (causing shallow respiration), hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), hyperlipidemia (e.g. elevated levels of fats, triglycerides, and cholesterol in the blood), central nervous system depression, gastrointestinal damage, coma and death.
